January 13 Topic—The Illusion of Success: Redefining What it Means for You

A panel discussion moderated by Kate Bailey & Kat Thayer featuring panelists Vanessa Barcus of Talisman Fine Jewelry & Aubrey Gordon 8z Real Estate

The concept of “success” is different for everyone. In a society where we often define “success” by fame and fortune, the constant pressure to grow, make more money, get more followers, or land a big account can cloud what success actually looks like for you. At TARRA, we believe in a new definition of “success” where you can define what that looks like on the inside, not the outside.

Join us for a panel discussion where two entrepreneurs share their stories of redefining success and transforming their businesses/careers to create a life of thriving instead of striving.

ABOUT OUR SPEAKERS

Former Goldyn boutique owner Vanessa Barcus has channeled her creativity into a new endeavor: Talisman Fine Jewelry. Sculpted in an intuitive, freeform fashion, the collection is made with recycled 14k gold, making it both sustainable and lending it a substantiality that feels contemporary and ancient at once. Her free moments revolve around Ram Dass’ teachings, Gabrielle Bernstein’s talks and books, and Brene Brown’s podcast.

Aubrey Gordon is the VP of Marketing for 8z Real Estate, a Colorado-based residential real estate brokerage. Prior to joining 8z this spring, she served as President of Sprocket Communications, an award-winning PR and Social Media agency she founded in 2007. Aubrey graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder and is basically a Colorado native. Current Covid-friendly obsessions include: a new Peloton, Traverse Fitness, bingeing Guy’s Grocery Games, and making a lot of soup.

ABOUT SUSTAINING SMALL

Sustaining Small is a monthly series for artisans, creatives, designers, writers, retail and other microbusiness entrepreneurs, who want to engage in dialogue about what it means to thrive.

We gather each month for meaningful conversations, education and workshops about how to maintain, manage and create a microbusiness and creative livelihood that feels authentic to you, your vision and how you want your life and profession to integrate.

These monthly dialogues are meant to be a space of community building, support and learning. We are here to help you get clear about what you want, how to achieve it and ensure longevity for your vision.

Sustaining Small is a safe space where you get to ask the questions you haven’t asked, discover new ways of thinking, uncover key resources and tools, and find out what other creatives in the community are doing to “sustain small.”

WHY WE FOUNDED SUSTAINING SMALL

Kristina Thayer of Candelaria and Kate Bailey of TARRA created this gathering because we understand the unique challenges micro-businesses face. We know that there are millions of small business owners who don’t subscribe to the notion that “success” means hundreds of thousands of adoring fans, millions of dollars in the bank, dozens of employees and a global supply chain.

For many of us, “success” means being able to do what we love, on our own terms, in our own space with our own two hands.

We look forward to meeting you.
