Brain Food: New Year, New Mindset
Written by Rae-Claire Embree
As we dive first into the new year, I’m ‘fighting’ against the pressure of New Year’s resolutions, instead approaching them with a ‘New Mindset’.
When I think about it, humans (aka animals) are wired to rest and recharge, especially during these colder months. Wild animals hibernate, stay cozy, and take their time. So why should I push myself to reinvent the wheel right now?
There’s plenty of time for big changes in the spring when the sun is out for longer periods as we emerge from our ‘dens’. So for now, I’m embracing rest and letting the new year unfold naturally—no hustle required.
These “Brain Food” topics below are about sparking inspiration, without the pressure to do it all right away.
Have a topic you’d like us to cover for the next edition? We’re all ears! Drop your ideas, and let’s keep the conversation flowing.

Saying ‘Goodbye’ to Goodreads
New Year, new switchup. I’m officially using The Storygraph instead of Goodreads! Why? Well, besides Goodreads being owned by Amazon (no thanks Bezos), The Storygraph which is Black woman-founded and operated, focuses on helping you discover books in a more thoughtful, personalized way.
The UK-based book platform founded by Nadia Odunayo is quickly gaining popularity—and rightfully so! With features like personalized book recommendations, mood-based filters, and a focus on user experience, StoryGraph puts readers first. Say goodbye to annoying ads and hello to quality book suggestions tailored to your needs. Find out how this growing platform is revolutionizing the way we discover books and why it’s becoming a favorite among avid readers. Read the Bustle article about Founder Nadia Odunayo.
Women’s Soccer Kicks Off in Denver
Denver is officially joining the National Women’s Soccer League as its 16th franchise, with a record-breaking $110 million expansion fee—the highest ever for U.S. women’s professional sports. Backed by IMA Financial Group CEO Robert Cohen and a group of local investors, the team will debut in 2026 alongside Boston’s new franchise. This milestone cements Denver’s growing influence in sports and ushers in an exciting new chapter for women’s soccer.
